Welcome to CHETOWN FILMS, home of multiple award winning director, producer, editor, and music supervisor Rob Schwartz. The name Chetown Films originated from Rob’s hometown Cherry Hill, NJ which him and his friends called Chetown.
Rob has worked on multiple award winning movies, broadcast TV shows, award winning music videos, and some pretty big commercials. Also, Chetown Film is most known for their Music Supervisor role throughout many movies and TV shows because their sister company, WHO?MAG Distribution has over 1,700 music releases including a Grammy Award Winning album and multiple #1 Billboard Albums.
Rob started his music career at ILS Distribution, the independent distribution company for PolyGram Records, where he distributed records like Jay-Z’s first record “In My Lifetime”, Dougie Fresh, Beenie Man, Jeru The Damaja, and many others. After moving to Los Angeles to work as a songwriter with some of BabyFace’s artists, Rob ended up moving back to the East Coast to work in Wall Street in Risk Management for companies like Merrill Lynch, Bear Stearns, JP Morgan, and his first job National Discount Brokers.
Rob created one of the first hip hop websites (whomag.net) in 2001 to feature original video content. In 2005, he created “WHO?MAG DVD Mag Vol. 1” which was the first hip hop DVD distributed to Netflix and Blockbuster and the first DVD Magazine in Walmart, Target, and Best Buy. After the massive success of the DVD, in 2007 he turned the DVD Magazine into “WHO?MAG TV” which premiered in over 120,000,000 households on Sky TV throughout Europe. In October of 2009, his first US nationwide broadcast channel “Colours TV” picked up the show. This was his sign to quit the finance world and focus purely on music, movies, and TV. WHO?MAG TV currently has 86 episodes (30 mins each) and have aired on multiple broadcast TV networks worldwide. His spin off shows DMTV (Dance Music TV) which focuses on EDM and dance music has 26 episodes (30 mins each) and Video Vision, his music video show, has 77 episodes (30 mins each). Combined, Rob has over 3,000 celebrity interviews throughout his programming and websites.
In January of 2010, Rob and his high school buddy, Grammy Nominated/Multiplatinum producer Mr. Mig opened up their music and TV studio in South Jersey. Rob also created his music distribution company about the same time with his first release being “The Just-Ice and KRS-One EP Vol. 1”. Now, 12 years later, Rob has over 1,700 releases, 200 sub-labels, a Grammy Award Winning Album, multiple #1 Billboard records, and many major artists of all genres under his distribution.
Simultaneously, Rob started working on featured films. His first one was “living will…” with Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn, and April Scott. He was the music supervisor and associate producer. Under Chetown Films, Rob also began directing and producing music videos. He was hired frequently from Universal Records to directed, produced, and edited videos from artists like Cindy Valentine, Duncan Morley, Tina DeCara, Katrina, Joe Zangie, and many others. Also in 2010, Rob won the Pocono Film Festival for “Best Documentary” for the “WHO?MAG Hip Hop Document” which he directed, produced, and edited.
Since then, Rob has worked on multiple movies and TV shows. He directed and edited his own show, the rebirth of the legendary 80’s dance TV show “Dancin’ On Air” (aka “Dance Party USA”) which aired on FUSE TV. There was even a reality TV show based on Rob and his team making the show called “Saturday Morning Fever”. Rob has worked on many other TV shows including “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (additional editor), “The Goldbergs” (additional editor), “The Four on Fox” (casting), “The Q on Fox” (casting), “The Saturday Night Comedy Show” with HBO Def Jam creator Bob Sumner (director/producer), and many more.
Rob has also worked on many movies including the multiple award winning “The Retaliators” (Consulting Coordinator), “The Allnighter” (Music Supervisor), “Philly Christmas” (Consulting Producer & Music Supervisor), “7th Secret” (Music Supervisor), “Errand Boys” (Producer & Music Supervisor), “Bullied” (filmed in UK – Director, Producer, Editor, Music Supervisor), “The Mint” (Assistant Producer), “Sickness” (Music Supervisor), “Leaving Circadia” (First Assistant Director), “Nobody Gets Out Alive” (Music Supervisor), “living will…” (Music Supervisor), “Ill” (Associate Producer), and more.
In 2012, Rob launched the first music TV network “iFame TV” on Roku to feature hip hop, R&B, and dance music. iFame TV was also the first to air an urban drama on Roku entitled “The Book of Nimrod”. Rob also launched 2 other networks – “WHO?MAG Multimedia” (2017) and “Video Vision TV” (2019). All three networks air on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Firestick, Google Play, plus our site www.whomagtv.com and our free WHO?MAG Multimedia cellphone app.
Rob is also an international speaker. He has spoken in Seoul, South Korea to over 50,000 kids, London, and all over the US. His music distribution company is the first to launch NFTs titled “Whomeez” in June 2021. He also is an advisor to “Band Royalty NFT’s” (over $1,000,000 in sales in 1 day) and Northwestern Mutual Bank (under Jeff Hammer).
Besides his awards from films and TV, Rob has received 5 awards from the City of Philadelphia, 2 awards from the city of Baltimore, an award from Master P and Jesse Jackson, a Tri-State Music Award, a BET.com award, a Grammy Award, and many others.
